Sifu Stephen F. Frerichs (3rd Degree)Sifu Stephen F. Frerichs (3rd Degree) began his martial arts journey in June 1967 at the ASU Sun Devils Wrestling Camp for kids. As a youngster, he excelled in grappling and continued training throughout his teenage years.

After high school, his interests turned to in the Asian martial arts and in particular, Chinese kung fu. In 1976 he started learning Pai Lum (White Dragon) kung fu and by 1979 had discovered Ving Tsun kung fu, the art he has continued to practice ever since.

A true pioneer of Ving Tsun in Arizona, Sifu Frerichs became one of the first three American headstudents of Wing Tsun Grandmaster Leung Ting in 1980. In the years that followed, he was instrumental in the art's promotion and growth in the Phoenix metro through the formation of the first Ving Tsun kung fu club at Arizona State University; as well as numerous classes he conducted through the City of Phoenix Parks and Recreation department.

Between 1985 and 1990, Sifu Frerichs authored numerous instructional articles on Ving Tsun which were printed in Inside Kung Fu magazine and Official Karate magazine. In addition, Sifu Frerichs also appears in the instructional book, Dynamic Wing Tsun kung fu written by his former teacher.

Sifu Frerichs has also been an avid practitioner of the Filipino martial art of Escrima, having started learning from Grandmaster Rene Latosa in 1983. Through diligent training, he was awarded certification as a full instructor by the Phillipine Martial Arts Society (PMAS) in 1986. In subsequent years, Sifu Frerichs has also practiced Escrima under the auspices of well-known instructors such as Martin Torres and Jeff LaTorre of the Direct Torres Eskrima system (DTE).

An educator by profession, Steve Frerichs holds a Masters in Fine Arts (M.F.A.) degree and has taught as a public school teacher since the fall of 1995.

At the present time, Sifu Steve Frerichs is a certified instructor for the National Ving Tsun Organization (NVTO) and is a private student of Austin, Texas-based Master Jeff Webb. Additionally, Sifu Frerichs is the chief-instructor of Practical Combat Escrima (PCE) and serves as both director and advisor for the PCE program to the NVTO.

Ryan RandRyan Rand (Assistant Instructor) is a personal student of Sifu Steve Frerichs and has studied Ving Tsun with him for several years.

Hardworking and enthusiastic, Ryan has also attended seminars taught by Master Webb in both Arizona and Texas. At present he is a certified assistant instructor of the National Ving Tsun Organization.
